Virginia is for Lovers

Category > Fun

I frequently refer to Virginia as my first born daughter, so I feel it’s important I introduce early on. She’s so precious to my husband and I and we love her very much. Alas, Virginia is our boat! Behold – our beloved ProStar 190.

This is my 3rd summer skiing. I had never tried it or ever thought I would enjoy it before that. My husband on the other hand has been skiing since he was very young. At first I was a bit skeptical. I didn’t want to get my hair wet, or get in the murky water, but I humoured the idea. Let me tell you, the feeling of getting up for my first time was exhilarating and it was love at first ski. I learned pretty quickly due to having such an amazing coach/trainer (Chad). By the end of that first summer, I was already kicking one ski off and balancing on a single. I was pretty impressed with myself because we hadn’t gone out on the river too many times that season and I was told that my progress was way above average – yay. The next summer was when I really really fell in love with it. Every time I was on the water I felt myself getting better and better. With this new found passion, Chad and I decided it was time to get our own boat and take things to the next level.

We picked up our MasterCraft ProStar 190 in July of 2011…after months and months of research and searching for the perfect boat. We found her in Roanoke, Virginia (hence why we decided to name her that) and decided to immediately take a chance by driving all the way out there from Toronto (about a 23 hour road trip that turned into a 36 hour roadtrip….don’t ask haha).

Although there is only a short span within the year that we can ski, it is a sport that demands you stay in shape all year round. It is VERY physically demanding. Even after a 2 minute run, I can feel it in my hands/grip, forearms, shoulders, core, back and legs for days after. You need to have a high tolerance for endurance and uber strong core. I’ll leave you with a few snaps, but wanted to make this introduction earlier than later because I will likely reference it frequently.
