Sephora Shopping Haul

Category > Beauty

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend – I can’t believe how quickly it flew by…especially when compared to how LONG Monday’s can feel. Luckily, I picked up a few goodies at Sephora this weekend to get me excited this morning (yes, I get as giddy as a child when I get to try out new products).

I wanted to share a quick shopping haul with you on what I picked up. A few items are my holy grail products and others are test drives with rationale on each. Enjoy!

Make Up For Ever – Aqua Eyes 0L [$20 CAD]: I toggle between eyeliners. I’ve recently settled on the Nars Pencil liner because it truly is smudge-free and waterproof, but for some reason, I felt like picking one up from Make up For ever. I’ve used this one many times before and do enjoy how well it glides on…I suppose switching between the two makes me appreciate them each more (I know that doesn’t make much sense).

Nars Bronzer – Laguna [$42 CAD]: The bottom of my bronzer palette was starting to peak through, and the thought of dropping it one day only to have it shatter, then be OUT of bronzer is unheard of, so I picked up another NARS Laguna. I generally wear this one year round other than the summer months when I get a bit of natural colour. I have to go a shade darker at that point because Laguna virtually disappears on my skin tone.

DIORSKIN FOREVER – 031 SAND [$48 CAD]: Those who know me well, know that I am addicted to Dior’s Diorskin Forever Flawless Perfection Fusion Wear Makeup. It has SPF 25 in it, which is a bonus. This is truly the best foundation I have ever tried because the colour matches my skin perfectly (next time you’re in the car, do the visor test…check out the colour while in the natural light and see how your foundation stands up – I’ve had days when it looked great at home, and a totally different colour when I got outside – worst thing ever!).  It doesn’t declare that it is waterproof, but it lasts ALL day long. I’ve even pulled some all nighters for work and it goes well beyond the 18+ hour mark. The best part is that it doesn’t feel like a cake face when you put it on (almost every other formula declaring “long wearing/full coverage” that I’ve tried are very heavy)…I could go on and on, seriously…next time you’re in Sephora or a department store, ask for them to pump a sample into a container for you and give it a go. Colours ending with a “2″ are more yellow/olive undertones and colours ending with a “1″ are for pinkish undertones.

Hope in a Jar – Omega 3-6-9 replenishing oil – [$59 CAD]: In the summer months I tend to get extremely dry skin and it drives me NUTS! In speaking with one of the reps, she sold me on the ‘When hope is not enough” Omega oil which is great for rubbing in your skin for renewal. I’ve only used it once so far and all I can tell so far is that is smells AMAZING. Whether it really works or not will need to wait. I’ll report back on this later. I am not easily sold by gimmicks and I have high hopes for this one because Omega 3-6-9 is SO good for you, so why wouldn’t it work on the outside as well as it does on the inside :). Fingers crossed it helps…

L’Occitane Hand Cream – Cherry Blossom [$12 CAD]: Keeping with the theme of dry skin, my husband actually picked this one out for me because he liked the design of the advertisement haha. After smelling it and reading the promise of intense moisture without being greasy (even after you wash your hands)…I was suckered in. I only used it twice before running to the L’Occitane store near my office earlier today to buy the full sized version. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS!!!!

Caviar – Replenishing Moisture Shampoo [$37 CAD]: Around this time last year my husband got sick – I won’t get into details, but even though we’re uber healthy we had to start analyzing everything in our lives (including any potential toxins). We found that my hairspray and a lot of my products may have contributed/aggravated symptoms. In general, it probably isn’t the greatest for you to be using products that are loaded with Sulfates, Phthalates & Parabens. Given that the Caviar line is natural, I wanted to give their shampoo a test drive. So far, so good. My hair is ultra silky and light weight. I was also shocked with how much it lathered. You really only need a tiny bit (and I have really long hair). Other than the first test drive, I’ll keep you posted on how well this one pans out, but I will definitely be sticking with Paraben/Sulfate Free products as much as I can.

Caviar – Working Hair Spray Ultra Control [$10 CAD Sampler Size]: Along the same theme as the Caviar shampoo, I am in pursuit of a Paraben, Sulfate, and Phthalate free Hair Spray. I was skeptical about this one, so I only bought the sampler size. I’m not TOO impressed, but will give it another go.

Phyto Paris – Volumizing Spray Phytovolume Actif Leave-In  [$35 CAD]: I LOVE big hair…LOVE. I’ve been wanting to try this one for a while after seeing many reviews for it declaring it as being one of the best volumizers. Sadly, I used it this morning but didn’t have time to style my hair, so it went into a pony tail. I’ll report back when I get to use it for real next time. Bonus with Phyto is that their products are also all natural.

How was your weekend? Have you tried any of these products before? Any recommendations for good products which are all natural?

Have you want to get Hair styling? These hair products, as well as a host of more natural personal care products, are usually a healthy choice for pregnant women.   By reducing the number of harmful chemicals and potential allergens, these products help keep both mother and baby safe.

Hi Maja!  Thanks for this post!  I love the fact that you offer variety in terms of blog posts.   Just wondering about the DiorSkin foundation.  I've been wearing Estee Lauder's Double Wear liquid foundation for a while now, but your description of the DiorSkin foundation has definitely piqued my interest.  It doesn't exactly offer the most natural finish, but I like the fact that it offers full coverage, doesn't oxidize or migrate throughout the day, doesn't cause blemishes, and doesn't transfer onto clothing, fingertips, etc.    I was reading up on DiorSkin and noticed that one reviewer mentioned that for her the foundation did oxidize and turn darker/orange by the end of the day and another reviewer mentioned that it provided great coverage, but wasn't natural looking in daylight, so she would only recommend wearing it at night.  What are your thoughts on this - do you find it's suitable for daytime wear?   Do you have any issues with the skin sensitivity or the product turning darker throughout the day?   Last question - do you find it holds up well during the summer months (I have an oily t-zone and tend to get "shiny" particularly in the summer).

Thanks in advance!  And sorry for the deluge of questions.

I LOVE NARS! They have the best Bronzer along with manyyyyy other great products! I am obsessed with their blush Orgasm its highly pigmented and looks wonderful on ANY skin tone :) Also I totally agree with your choice with DiorSkin Forever Foundation as it is by far the BEST! I am a makeup artist and have tried MANY different foundations over the years and I have to say this one is the best foundation out there on the market, however another great one too (if you ever want something a bit lighter but still giving good coverage) is MakeUp Forever HD foundation, it gives a flawless look as well :)

Also anything from the Philosophy skin care line is AMAZING! I love their cleanser Purity as it is a 3-in-1 that removes dirt and makeup while cleansing the face.I also like their products because they are pretty close to being all natural which is important :)

@DawnAutuori Hi Dawn - sorry for the delayed response and thanks for the wonderful feedback!

If I were you, I would get Sephora to give you a sample of DIOR...or with their great return policy, try it and return it if you don't love it. I'm surprised to hear about someone experiencing it oxidizing on their skin. I trust that it definitely may happen for them, but I have never noticed that in the slightest for me. What may happen some times is that you choose a colour that looks like a match in the store under fluorescent lighting, then when you look at it in broad daylight half way through the day, you realize you got the wrong undertone. I can see the pink or peach undertones doing this to someone who is olive - or vice versa.

It is a bit of a heavier coverage, but it's not something I mind wearing during the day. Alternatively if you wanted something lighter, they have the Dior Nude which is a much lighter formula but still great coverage.

Lastly, yes, this one does hold up in the summer!!!!! However I don't have any oily patches or t-zone so I can't speak for that. My problem is the reverse in that I have very dry skin. What I would suggest is just to get some blotting papers and pressed powder to apply half way through the day to soak the oils and keep foundation in it's place.

Again, sorry for the delay - loveeeeeee the questions - keep them coming :)

@JessM Eeek -I am so glad to see someone else shares my love for Dior. I am definitely going to give the MakeUp ForEver HD a go...I did a while back, but had the wrong colour and I didn't know you could return products to Sephora at the time. Other than the colour, I do remember loving the formula. Thanks for the feedback Jess!
